Food Pairing Tips

We are pleased to share some pairing ideas to inspire you, whether you are in your home creating a weeknight dinner, or out on the town letting someone else do the dishes. Here are suggestions for each of Averill Creek’s wines:

Pinot Gris
The flavour: The flavour: creamy, stone fruit, minerality
Suggested pairings: seafood such as crab, salmon, halibut, or oysters on the half shell

Gewürztraminer
The flavour: spicy, tropical, floral
Suggested pairings: soft creamy goat cheese, ripe fruit such as pears or peaches

Pinot Grigio
The flavour: citrus, green apple, mineral
Suggested pairings: enjoy on its own as an aperitif or serve with lighter dishes

Pinot Noir
The flavour: raspberry, black cherry, earth, hints of tobacco
Suggested pairings: lamb with rosemary and red currant jelly, pork or poultry, especially with a fruity style of sauce.

Cowichan Black
The flavour: medium sweet with tangy blackberry
Suggested pairings: savour this delicious dessert wine on its own or pair with chocolate, blue cheese, fresh fruit or ice cream

Foch-Eh

The flavour: dark berry, and juicy acidity
Suggested pairings: Serve slightly chilled solo, or as a partner to burgers, pizza, charcuterie, or a picnic lunch

Prevost

The flavour: intense fruit, peppery finish
Suggested pairings: grilled red meats, roasted lamb, game or BBQ’d ribs

Somenos Rose
The flavour: light bodied and crisp Pinot Noir rosé
Suggested pairings: good with appetizers of all kinds; on its own in with a great view and sunshine!

Somenos Red 2008
The flavour: juicy red berries, mild tannins 
Suggested Pairings: pizza, tomato based pasta sauces or stews.
