100% whole bunch, wild fermented, nothing added, nothing taken away. Aged in older French Oak for 18 months.
When our winemaker, Brent Rowland, arrived in 2018, he was adamant that he would never make a single varietal Vancouver Island Merlot. He believed a cool climate like ours could never ripen it to his satisfaction.
Until 2022, when we found ourselves with the perfect recipe for a true dark horse: one strong willed hot-shot Californian viticultiralist willing to go behind Brent's back to prove we could ripen Merlot, and a beautifully long and warm growing season.
The result? Less than 40 cases of powerful, complex, poised, precise, expressive wine capable of making Brent eat his words:
"I am not making any F@&king Merlot"
